FAR FROM SENDER - SteamOS / Linux x64 launcher INSTALL ON STEAMOS 1. Switch to Desktop Mode and download far-from-sender-steamos-x64.tar.gz from https://axelbrauneder.com/games/far_from_sender/ 2. Extract the archive to a permanent folder, for example ~/Games. 3. Open Steam: Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library > Browse. 4. Select the FarFromSender program inside the extracted FarFromSender-linux-x64 folder. If necessary, set the file filter to All Files. 5. In the shortcut's Properties > Compatibility, leave Proton forcing OFF. This is a native Linux application. 6. Set the shortcut's controller layout to Gamepad (not keyboard/mouse emulation). 7. Return to Gaming Mode and launch Far From Sender from your library. Keep the entire extracted folder together. An internet connection is required: the launcher opens https://axelbrauneder.com/games/far_from_sender/ in its own bundled runtime. No separate browser or Node.js is needed. Quit game is on the title screen and in the pause menu (Start). CONTROLS (Xbox labels) Left stick: walk, fly. Right stick: look, turn a body. A: jump, boost, press. B: sprint. X: enter or step out of the ship. Y: land, take off. LB/RB: climb/descend in the ship, zoom steps on foot. LT/RT: zoom. D-pad: move between buttons. View: open the letter. Start: pause. SAVES AND UPDATES Game updates load from the website each time you start the launcher. Ordinary game updates need no new download. Progress is stored under ~/.config/FarFromSender and stays when you replace the launcher. It is separate from progress made in a web browser. To update the launcher itself, quit it and replace the extracted folder at the same path, so your Steam shortcut keeps working. If the game cannot load, a local screen offers Try again and Quit game. TROUBLESHOOTING If the program is not marked executable after extraction, open its Properties > Permissions and enable "Is executable". Run ./FarFromSender from a terminal in the extracted folder to see errors. Each run writes ~/.config/FarFromSender/launcher.log (graphics, controller, page errors) and keeps the run before as launcher.previous.log. Send them along when reporting a problem, or switch on Send logs in the pause menu: while it is on, the launcher sends its log to axelbrauneder.com (technical details only, no personal data). It is off unless you switch it on. Do not run it as root and do not disable Chromium's sandbox.
